Hello It is so nice to meet you!

I am so happy that you are here.

My name is Theresa Haddow. I live in Austin, Texas, with my husband and son. Coffee keeps me sane and I am always down to check out a fun new happy hour in town.

My friends describe me as quirky, fun and sometimes a little loud (ok more than sometimes). I do have a little bit of a stubborn streak but that also means that when I am super passionate about something you’ll hear about it and I won’t stop until I get the job done.

I am also pretty resilient. You see like everyone, I’ve had some major disappointments happen in my life. I never planned on becoming an artist. In fact, the plan was to become a lawyer, I even graduated law school.

Theresa Haddow Law School Graduate

After we moved from California to Texas for my husband’s job I decided to take the opportunity to craft a new career for myself. I had always had a passion for art. In college I had the opportunity to get a minor in photography because I had taken so many classes as an elective but opted to finish a minor in criminal justice instead. Throughout law school I found myself seeking relief from the stressors of life in the artwork and craft projects that I created.

Here in Texas I found an incredible opportunity at Paper Source and I was hired as the Workshop Coordinator. This job was PERFECT. I got to talk about crafting with customers all day long. But then I got pregnant and medical complications made it so I could no longer work.

This incredible gift of time had been given to me. I was finally able to explore my creative passions which is how I discovered my love of watercolor and creating.

I Don’t like to harm the environment

As I began studying all of the different types of watercolor brands, I realized that all watercolor is not created equally and that there are sometimes some nasty gross ingredients that even the most well-known brands use in their product.

I didn’t want my form of expression to do anything to cause further harm to the environment or Mother Nature so I found a professional grade watercolor that does not contain any animal byproducts.

I Support Other Woman Owned Businesses to provide you with the highest quality prints

Another thing that was very important to me is providing you with the best quality prints I can find. As a consumer yourself, you know there are A LOT of options when it comes to print companies. After a lot of research I found another woman owned company that can make the prints archival and waterproof. Her company is called Persnickety Prints and is the only company I use when you order prints from me. It is my way of ensuring your investment will last a lifetime.

The Create Kit

I started The Create Kit after watching an episode of Shark Tank - well kind of…

About The Create Kit

I first thought of The Create Kit when I was taking my son to different story times around town. Most of them usually had some sort of crafting activity at the end, but because he was a little younger than others in the group he mostly just got handed a pack of stickers and went to town. Now these weren’t fun crafty stickers, these were those boring circle stickers that you can get from any office supply store. But HE LOVED IT and more importantly he was learning while he was doing the activity. I began brainstorming on how I could amp up the fun while making the craft more visually stimulating (for me not for him, I like pretty things!).

Shortly after, the Shark Tank episode came out. There was someone who was trying to get the Sharks to buy into her subscription box of Montessori toys. The business owner was giving all sorts of facts and stats about how there are very few subscription boxes for parents of kids 1-5 years old and how most of our kids learning develops in this age range. She gave all sorts of stats and numbers that made me realize that I could provide the same thing she does but with craft supplies (and for far less money)!

It all of a sudden clicked that I have all the tools I need to start this business because nothing like it exists! My years of crafting experience, running workshops at Paper Source and my past job experiences (hello camp counselor and helping a start up ice cream shop) all came together to create this fun product that gets you crafting with your child!

What Makes The Create Kit Different?

And because learning is oh so important to me, I made sure to partner with some pretty incredible women to make sure that each kit is packed full of knowledge. That’s why each craft has it’s very own developmental guide to keep you and your kiddo learning while you craft. Find out more about what The Create Kit has to offer here.
